If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 

James 1:5 ESV

By what means do we attain wisdom?

By asking God.

The Father is generous indeed. If He would not withhold His only Son, He will neither withhold wisdom. We can trust His loving-kindness, His generosity.

He is gracious to all, but still we must ask.

We must seek His wisdom.

Consider Proverbs, the book of wisdom. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD and giving diligent attention to His Word. Fearing God causes us to see Him as the true and only source of wisdom.

In asking God for wisdom, therefore, we do not neglect His Scriptures for by them God has spoken and continues to speak. Indeed, true wisdom is reliant upon our relationship with God. We must both listen & speak to Him.

We must meditate upon the wisdom that He has given to us through His Word, while continuing to ask for His grace to understand and obey.
