There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way of death.
Proverbs 16:25 ESV
What proverb better describes life in the aftermath of the Fall?
Our sin clouds our judgments. It covers our eyes. We seek after things that seem to bring joy, pleasure, and happiness, but they end in death.
The world is filled with people who believe themselves to be right.
Many who call themselves pro-choice believe that they are truly choosing the lesser of two evils, that they are preserving the rights of women.
But death comes.
It is not enough for us to feel that we are right. Our moral intuition has been marred by the curse of sin. We cannot trust ourselves nor our desires.
We must instead turn to the Word. We must look to the Scriptures, which reveal to us the path of life, the way to fullness and joy.
So long as we follow what seems right to us, we will remain lost.
Our judgments must be submitted to God’s Word in all things.
May we not follow our own ways and instincts; instead, let us be kept by the Word that we would find in it life!
