For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Psalm 84:11 ESV

Sin can only offer a false promise, a moment of pleasure followed by death. It strips us of the strength that it promises, corroding and binding our will. Plunging us into an everlasting darkness.

Not so with the LORD.

He is a sun, beaming down light and warmth upon His people. Instead of making empty promises, He Himself gives strength to do everything that we do. His radiant glory sets us into motion, giving light to our path.

He is a shield, a mighty fortress. Behind and within Him, we are made secure from the Evil One. Even through our death, He works all things for the good of His people.

No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. He keeps back nothing good from His beloved, His people who bask in His light and stand in His strength.

Do you believe this?

Rejection of sin’s immediate pleasures gives way to the abundant riches of our God’s lavished grace. He withholds no good thing because in Christ, He has given us Goodness. The eternal God who is good and from whom all goodness flows is our Father in Christ. And we are His children.

He withholds nothing because He has already given everything. He has given Himself.
